Hoka bondi 9 review

The Bondi 9 is finally here, and we’ve reviewed it in detail, realizing that HOKA has continued to push the boundaries of innovation. We consider it an improved version of the previous model—lighter, more durable, and packed with better cushioning. The Bondi 9’s upper offers a more premium fit than before, and the Supercritical foam provides greater bounce. Unfortunately, its narrow toebox, oversized frame, and thick construction may be off-putting to many runners. Let’s dive into the Hoka Bondi 9 review.

  • best Hoka running shoes
  • best running shoes for shin splints
  • Pros

  • Endless cushioning
  • New supercritical EVA  midsole
  • Amazing step-in comfort
  • Doubles as a walking shoe
  • Stable for its height
  • Built to last
  • Excels at slow-and-steady paces
  • Well-designed heel collar
  • Lighter than v8
  • Cons

  • Not for wide feet
  • Still feels heavy and clunky underfoot
  • Drop measurement differs from stated
  • Non-gusseted tongue
  • Audience verdict

    Positive Feedback:

Comfort and Support: Many users appreciate the Bondi 9 for its exceptional cushioning and support, making it suitable for daily activities and long periods of standing.
A reviewer on Zappos noted, “Very comfortable, great support… I like even more Hoka’s cushioned comfort.”

    Styling Versatility:
Some customers have incorporated the Bondi 9 into their everyday wardrobe. An InStyle article highlighted how the shoes complement a variety of outfits, saying, “This Canadian tuxedo keeps things versatile and elegant, adding to the look and elegance of chunky shoes.”

    Areas of Concern:
Fit and Comfort Issues: Many users didn’t find the Bondi 9 comfortable. One Zappos customer noted, “It’s much more uncomfortable than my other Bondis, hurting the side of my left foot and the front of my right foot.”

    Running Performance:
Some runners found the Bondi 9 less supportive than other models. A review from Tom’s Guide states, “I found it uncomfortable when I was out and about… I was expecting a little more response from the supercritical foam in the midsole.”

Overall, while the Hoka Bondi 9 received praise for its cushioning and support, especially for walking and everyday wear, some users expressed concerns.

  • Who should buy

After testing the Bondi 9, we’ve concluded that:

    • As before, those seeking a comfortable shoe can pick up this pair without hesitation. Its cushioning is evenly distributed across the entire foot, making it great for all-day walking and even long runs.
    • If you’re looking for a premium shoe with maximum foam for casual running and walking, the Bondi 9 provides excellent support.
    • If you have narrow feet, you’ll appreciate it even more.

    Who should not buy

In our opinion, the Bondi 9 features a narrow toebox, similar to the previous Bondi 8, so runners expecting a wider fit are better off considering an alternative. It’s best suited for those with narrow to medium feet. If you have wide feet, the Altra VIA Olympus 2 would be a better choice. If you prefer a lightweight shoe, the Bondi 9’s heavy, slow feel may disappoint you. In this case, the ASICS Novablast 5 is a much better (and more affordable) option.
