Outsole
We found the Teva XLT2’s outsole didn’t compromise on durability. We believe that with moderate use, the Hurricane XLT2 will last well over a season. Although the Hurricane XLT2 is not the lightest sandal from the brand, it is not heavy.
Weight in Men’s US Size 9: 303g
Midsole
As for the width of the midsole in the heel, it turned out to be rather average. At 88mm, it’s still quite wide but not exceptional for hiking footwear.
Cushioning
Soft cushioning is not very common for hiking sandals. Our team members have noticed while hiking that it can provide great leg comfort for hours. Although it is a sandal, the Hurricane XLT2 helps as a hiking shoe with its heel thickness of 30.9mm, which provides comfort and protection to the ankle while walking. Finally, we can say that this sandal is many times more cushioned than the popular Teva Original Universal. It is 63% softer than the Original Universal Sandal.
Stability
It differs from Annanya sandals by its presence of arch support. The sandal comes with a contoured footbed with a cupped heel and high arch. It is not flat like other cheap sandals. Its ergonomic design supports the arch and protects the heel. We found during the review that you would pay $100-110 for this same type of support. For that reason, we would definitely recommend the Teva Hurricane XLT2 to people with flat feet and/or excessive height.
Flexibility
The Hurricane XLT2 is indeed a flexible sandal. We found that the sole has enough flexibility to bend naturally with the foot. It is possible to bend the sandal to a 90-degree angle.
Grip/Traction
The XLT2’s outsole lugs form a very effective triangular pattern. It grips rocks, loose gravel, and shallow mud very well.
Size and fit
Size
The XLT2 sandal is a little taller on our team’s men’s foot size, but we think it’s fine for hiking as this type of footwear has some extra length to prevent the toes from touching the ground.Fit
We don’t think we have anything to say about the fit of the sandals, as all three straps on the sandals are adjustable. Yes! You can adjust each Velcro strap. There is plenty of room between the strap attachments to fit all foot shapes. You can make that space bigger or smaller depending on your needs.
After hearing all the sentiments of our team members, we have come to the conclusion that the sandal is really great for hiking. This sandal ensures comfort, style, health, and durability. But remember that not everyone’s needs and preferences are the same, so you can check out (SHOE BUYING GUIDE) our article on how to choose the right shoe for your feet.
Who should buy?
We’ve confirmed that the Teva Hurricane XLT2 is a go-to sandal for people who need a versatile sandal for hiking, city walking, travel, camp wear, etc. This quick-drying footwear is great for swimming, kayaking, and other water activities. The upside is that it’s a sandal with arch support and lots of color options.
Who should not buy?
If your toes often encounter rocks and roots, you may want to consider a closed-toe sandal instead, like the KEEN Newport H2, a highly-rated option that’s a crossover between a hiking shoe and a sandal. On the other hand, if your needs are outdoor activities, you can choose Teva’s lightest, cheapest, and easiest model, The Original Universal.
